Can A Person Be Born Gay?

Recently, I posted an update on my Facebook page asking my friends if they believed that a person can be born gay. I was surprised to see that most of them, even Christians, believed that a person can be born gay. My surprise didn’t come from having a different belief, but my shock that most of them felt this way too. Which leads me to my response, I do think that a person can be born gay. Don’t get me wrong! I believe homosexuality is NOT right, and is SIN according to the Word of God.(Leviticus 18:22). I do, however, believe you can be born that way. Let’s take a look at it from the beginning. I believe Genesis can help shed some light on my point.

Where it all began
In the beginning, God made the earth, then He made the animals, then He made man, (Adam), and then He made woman, (Eve). The bible says that God saw that it was not good for man to be alone,(Gen 2:18) so God made a him a Woman to be his companion. God is showing us here who He wanted man’s companion to be, (a woman.) Then, the Bible says, He (God) gave them dominion over everything on and in the earth (Gen 1:26 & 28). Here, God was showing us which union he would bless. The next part where it gets interesting. God told Adam that he could eat of any fruit in the midst of the garden, but not of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (Gen 2:17). He told them that if they ate from it, he would surely die. This is where we all got messed up. Adam and Eve were given dominion over everything, they and their descendents could have lived forever, being fruitful and multiplying, but instead, they chose to disobey God.

Here comes the curses.
The ground was cursed, the woman was cursed, then all mankind was cursed. Mind you, not because of God, but because of their disobedience. The bible says, if you sow to the flesh, you shall, of the flesh, reap corruption.(Galatians 6:8) Notice what it did not say. It didn’t say you shall (from God) reap corruption. You will reap a harvest from the ground you sowed it in. This was the beginning of man’s problem. Now every human being would produce after its own kind. The seed in Adam was tainted. Now we all would be conceived with this tainted and cursed seed. This is how sin entered in. That’s why the bible says, all have sinned. (Romans 5:12)
Someone might say, but what about a baby, who hasn’t been here long enough to sin? It doesn’t matter. All have sinned. The seed is tainted. David said in Psalms that he was shaped in iniquity. In other words, he was fashioned in the mud and dirt and grime of sin from his mother’s womb. He was born in sin. We were all born with the same sin condition. That’s why Cain killed Abel. He was born with a curse of violence, murder and envy from Adams tainted seed. What could mankind do?

God’s Answer
This is where the plan of Salvation comes in. God knew that man could do nothing about the taint in their blood-line. We were all doomed. God knew the only way for us to have a fighting chance was to be BORN AGAIN, but this time of the Spirit. Our first birth carried the taint of disobedience and sin. The second birth carries, with it, the power to transfer us back to what God had originally designed for man. This path is still available today to anyone, including homosexuals, who have been living outside of God’s original plan for us. Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection obtained this way out.

The Problem we’re having.
If you asked the question, Gay at birth, of the average believer, most of us would say that God doesn’t make mistakes, and that you can’t be born gay because God wouldn’t make you that way. Well, I agree. God has never made anyone gay, and God doesn’t make mistakes, man does. We were the ones, in the beginning, who were given a chance to pass a blessing to all mankind, but decided to disobey God and pass a curse. We did this. Adam made it so every human being, throughout time, would be born with the potential to commit any sin. God, on the other hand, was so good to us that He sent His only Son, Jesus to die so that the curse (we started) would be broken.
You see, just because a person is born a certain way, does not mean God intended it. Think about people born with AIDS or cancer. Think about kids born as hermaphrodites, or with cleft palettes. I think everyone would agree that these things are not the work of God. Then why would it be God’s doing if a person was born gay? IT IS THE CURSE. Anyone born in this earth cannot escape it. That’s why we have to be born again.

Conclusion
My wife asked me a question last night that most of you might have on your lips as well. “What difference does it make?” Good question. No matter how you got AIDS, cancer or became a homosexual, there is a cure for your ailment. God provided it. I think that if we, the Church, can come to understand the completeness of our dilemma and then the finished work of Christ then we’ll know better how to wage war against Satan’s deceptions in the earth. One of the biggest excuses homosexuals use to shut the Church down is the excuse that they were born that way. We don’t know what to say other than, “no, you weren’t” or “God wouldn’t do that” so that the gay person is left with the fact that they have always felt the way they feel. So what else could it be? Think about what it would be like to have a conversation with a gay person and you’re able to shut their excuse down with, “You may have been born that way, bro/sis, but there is still a solution. God can do anything. Just like God can heal a person born with a hole in their heart, God can heal a person born a homosexual.”
